The Beer Professor

1150820_10200994796725432_95169524_nSo I’ve decided to start a blog about beer. Those of you who are friends with me on Facebook know that I post a daily beer fact there. People seem to enjoy these – at least that is what they tell me when I see them in person. As an economic geographer at the University of Toledo I have also been studying, analyzing, and writing about the American craft beer industry for a couple of years now.  I enjoy the fact that I work in a profession where my personal and professional worlds occasionally collide. My academic papers have been published both as book chapters and as refereed journal articles. In contrast to my beer facts that are short and pithy my academic writings are longer, more analytical (dare I say Poisson regression analysis), and are aimed at the academic community. A blog, I think, fits somewhere in between Facebook beer facts and scholarly articles. My blog entries will be more personal, opinionated, and contemplative in nature – more than a simple daily fact they will certainly contain material that would never make it into a scholarly journal. I am not sure how often I will make a posting – whenever the mood takes me and whenever I feel that I have something interesting to say I guess. I hope that you will enjoy them. And feedback is always welcome.

  2. Great to read your blog Neil. Because of your news in facebook about craft beer, I started to interested in craft beer. Last week when was in AAG meeting in Chicago, all week in many different bar based on your suggestion I tasted different craft beers and ı loved it. It was amazing to see that each bar in Chicago has different craft beer. So from now when ı go to different cities around the world, ı would not drink standart beer, only craft beer. So thank you the Beer Professor for introducing me this new beer world.
